I'm Gerard Barwell

Founder – BWell Speaking Academy

With more than three decades of experience spanning sales, leadership, and communication, I’ve learned that true success in business always comes down to one thing,  how well you connect with people.

Over the years, I’ve sold everything from ice creams to payroll technology, email platforms, and professional services. In the process, I’ve discovered the universal principles that drive trust, influence, and impact.

After winning 95 public speaking contests and building a reputation as a multi-award-winning professional speaker, I decided to share my knowledge with the world. Today, through BWell Speaking Academy, I deliver both group and one on one training for people that want to elevate their speaking ability or overcome a fear of speaking. In addition I deliver keynote presentations for conferences and meetings and I also provide MC services for all types of functions and parties.

As well as speaking and training, I provide executive and leadership coaching, empowering professionals, emerging leaders, and sales teams to communicate with clarity, lead with energy, and show up with confidence.

At the heart of everything I do is a simple mission: to help people find their voice, because when you can speak with purpose and authenticity, you can influence outcomes, inspire others, and unlock opportunities you never thought possible.

My Story

My journey into public speaking began at just 13 years old, when my mother took me along to a Junior Toastmasters Club. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for communication and personal growth.

Through school, I joined the debating team and competed in speaking competitions, experiences that helped me discover the power of words to inform, influence, and inspire.

When I entered the workforce, I quickly realised that strong communication skills were not just valuable, they were career-defining. The ability to connect with people, lead with clarity, and inspire confidence became the foundation for my success in sales and leadership roles, earning promotions, bonuses, and recognition along the way.

Over time, I channelled that confidence into building and leading my own businesses, combining entrepreneurial drive with a passion for helping others succeed. Along the way, I’ve been honoured to win 95 adult public speaking competitions across categories, including Inspirational, Humorous, Impromptu Speaking, and Speech Evaluation. Each one refining my craft and deepening my understanding of what makes communication truly effective.

Today, through the BWell Speaking Academy, I’m dedicated to sharing those lessons, helping professionals, leaders, and teams build the confidence, energy, and presence they need to communicate powerfully and achieve lasting success.

Why I Do It

I’ve experienced firsthand the joy and transformation that come from great communication, not just for the speaker, but for every person in the room. There’s nothing quite like delivering a speech that is engaging, entertaining, and inspiring, and then hearing someone say afterwards, “He was even better than I thought he would be.”

That feeling of connection, impact, and shared energy is what drives me every day. I want others to experience that same sense of confidence and fulfilment that comes from standing tall, speaking clearly, and knowing your message truly resonated.

As a professional speaker and speaking coach, I draw on decades of experience in sales, leadership, and communication to help people unlock their potential, not just to become better speakers, but to improve their lives, grow their careers, and increase their income through stronger, more influential communication.

Ultimately, I do this because I believe everyone deserves the chance to be heard, respected, and remembered and when you can communicate with confidence and authenticity, everything else in life gets better.
